As shown in Figure 4, the impact ionization rates of the two devices were used to analyze the location of the avalanche breakdown in the structure. Therefore, we can modify the breakdown voltage of the device by adjusting the structure of the guard ring, which is a good way to overcome the disadvantage of the low breakdown voltage of Schottky barrier diode detectors.

In this study, we have simulated the electrical crosstalk in back-illuminated and front-illuminated photodiode arrays as a function of substrate thickness and junction depth for single junction photodiode pixels, with and without guard-ring electrodes.
